Caribbean 101: Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is famous for its resort scene, boasting some of the best properties in the Caribbean for vacationers of all types.

But there’s more to the DR than resorts. While you’re there, you’ll enjoy world-class beaches, stunning landscapes, and people who are every bit as pleasant as the year-round weather. The vibrant culture is a melting pot that draws from Spanish, French, Haitian, and African backgrounds.

Visit Santo Domingo, the oldest continually inhabited European settlement in the New World, and marvel at its traditional architecture and cobblestone streets. Enjoy the striking views of mountains, waterfalls, and secluded coves at Samana. Take in a round of golf or see stretches of sugar cane fields at La Romana.

And of course the DR has its world-famous beaches. Punta Cana is one of the most popular beach destinations in the Caribbean, while Isla Saona offers a more romantic setting for you and a loved one. Boca Chica, with its shallow offshore waters, is perfect for the kids, and Cabarete is the place to be for surfing, scuba, windsurfing, and more water activities.
